Saturday was a "circle of life" type day. I attended a baby shower in the morning, a memorial service in the afternoon, and a dinner party in the evening. I also had a houseful of college kids staying for the weekend.
The memorial service brought to the forefront of my mind just how precious those other events are. The memorial service was a celebration of life in honor of Alice, a woman who brought smiles and good cheer wherever she went, and the service reflected her good nature.
Attending the dinner party that evening, I realized that I don't spend nearly enough time socializing with friends "just because." Much of my socializing is done during purpose-driven activities, and I realize that adults need recess, too. The dinner party was just the ticket. Collectively, I think we were the best comedy club in town. We laughed until we cried, and then we laughed some more.
I think Alice would have approved.
