Do you remember the SNL skit with Dana Carvey as the elder President George Bush explaining that "the bathroom in the Lincoln bedroom will run all night unless you jiggle the handle"? Well, Barbara could have easily fixed that with this handy kit:
Actually, the first thing to try if your toilet is running is merely replacing the flapper. Any home improvement store carries the part, and all you have to do to replace it is to take the lid off the tank, unhook the chain from the flush lever, and pop the old flapper off. Then just put the new flapper on, hook the chain, and replace the lid. As long as you don't drop the lid, the whole repair should take under 5 minutes.
If the original parts are wearing out, maybe you do need to replace the other inner workings as well. I must admit, when I read the instructions and got to the part where I was told to remove the tank from the toilet, I had a brief moment of panic. However, I plowed on, and felt a sense of accomplishment when the job was done.
No more handle-jiggling here!
What home task have you accomplished proudly?
Thanks for easy to follow instructions, and home improvement stores, and happy birthday to my middle daughter!
