Yellow lab Drexel looks up at the camera with brown expressive eyes |
It's been a slow week and inertia is strong. I'm going to skip a long intro and just jump right into my list:
1. I'm thankful that John and I are both testing negative for covid now, and we are looking forward to the day the lingering cough is gone.
2. I'm thankful for Teladoc.
3. I'm thankful I could take youngest granddaughter to library storytime.
4. I'm thankful for Drexel. Guide Dogs for the Blind posted earlier this week on Facebook that it was National Labrador Retriever Day, so definitely Drexel deserves a shout-out. He's a great dog--so patient and calm.
5. I'm thankful for friends. Several have reached out to ask how we are doing.
6. I'm thankful for kind landlords. Ours brought over fresh homemade sourdough bread this week--yum!
7. I'm thankful for good neighbors. It still kind of cracks me up that we live next door to a film set and get texts like the following: "Hey Guys, in about an hour or so. Gonna film some gunshots. Just fyi." I have no idea what the script for the scene is, but I imagine the line just before this goes down will be something along the effect of, "This here town ain't big enough for the both of us."
8. I'm thankful for books. I've been able to catch up on some reading. For example, I read Eloquent Animals, a book I remember reading when I was in junior high. I was curious to see if it was as fascinating as I remember. It did still hold my attention, but I was struck by how much technology has improved analysis of data over the years. The author wrote: "About five years ago, life became much easier for bioacousticians (those who study animal sounds) when "real time" sound-spectrum analyzers became available." And later: "The research team at Millbrook is also trying to design a machine that can synthesize bird songs." It would be interesting to read a more current book regarding research in how animals communicate, as Eloquent Animals was published almost 50 years ago.
9. I'm thankful for the internet. I can research family reunion venues and family history without leaving my house.
10. I'm thankful for John. I know he's looking forward to feeling better and returning to work.
What are you thankful for this week? Be sure to check out the other posts on the Ten Things of Thankful blog!
Grat #4 (goes without saying lol).
ReplyDeleteAnd, curiously, Grat #8.
Specifically, the technology piece.
Phyllis has a mild interest in birds, as in watching and such. I came across an app that she downloaded into her phone that, if she turns it on when there's a bird nearby (making noise), the app tells her all about whatever kind of bird it is.
cool.
have a good week
It amazes me that we can carry around in our pockets more technology than professional researchers had access to just a *few* years ago. (And it amazes me that I can say something like that and immediately sound like a really old person, which I refuse to believe I am.) LOL
DeleteI'm glad you are feeling somewhat better and pray you both are completely well soon.
ReplyDeleteGood neighbors and a great landlord are huge blessings.
Thank you!
