Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS streaks across the night sky |
My time here in California is coming to a rapidly approaching end, and I'm busy trying to cram in all the things to do before moving (including going outside to view a comet). I don't want to neglect writing a Ten Things of Thankful post, though. Time to jump "write" in!
Last Saturday, John called me to tell me that as he was driving home from work, the car made a knocking noise, then there was a big boom and a sudden loss of power. He was able to get the car to the side of the freeway. A man in another car pulled over behind him and excitedly reported that John's car had been shooting flames out the back! The car has 215,000 miles on it and is 16 years old, so we decided that given the circumstances, we'll call it a DNR.
1. I'm thankful that John is OK and that the car's death didn't harm anyone.
2. I'm thankful that we hadn't gotten around to replacing the tires yet.
3. I'm thankful for a rental car.
4. I'm thankful that we now can drive in the same car when we move back to Utah.
5. I'm thankful that we took a load of things back to Utah last month, so hopefully even though we are down one vehicle we will still be able to fit everything in the remaining vehicle.
6. I'm thankful it was the little car that died, and not the big one.
7. I'm going to really miss spending so much time with my grandchildren when we move, but I'm thankful for the time we've had together.
8. I'm thankful I got to spend some time with my oldest daughter again this week! She flew down to visit her best friend and go to Disneyland, and she invited John and I to join them. :-)
9. I'm thankful that the weather is finally understanding that it isn't the middle of summer anymore.
10. I'm thankful for John. We're both looking forward to his retirement!
What are you thankful for this week? Leave a comment and/or write your own list, and be sure to check out the other bloggers who are participating in the Ten Things of Thankful blog hop!
Cars seem to be a common subject in thankfulness posts. I am also glad that nobody was injured (other than the car) as it died on the motorway. It does seem that it had a useful and long lifespan though. Thoroughly enjoyed reading your list.
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing no one was hurt! It sounds like you've had a wonderful year and are still enjoying many good things right where you are.
ReplyDeleteIf the car cannot hold everything else, may I suggest renting one of those U-haul car topper things? I understand they can hold a lot.
Great line, how have I not heard that before? em>"Time to jump "write" in!
ReplyDeleteDoes seem to be a car week here.
Nice work with the hypograt treatment of the (another excellent line: "we'll call it a DNR") of the car trouble, surely one of the hallmarks of the TToT 'hop
